At its Feb. 17 meeting, the Fairfield City Council issued two proclamations, received public comments about arts programming and civic recruitment, approved youth commission appointments and adopted routine items on the consent calendar.
Council member Manvir Sandhu presented a proclamation recognizing Feb. 17, 2026, as Lunar New Year (the Year of the Horse) and highlighting Fairfield’s Asian and Pacific Islander community and cultural contributions. Representatives from the Asian Pacific American Public Affairs Association and the Solano County Chinese American Association accepted the proclamation and thanked the council for cultural programming and scholarships.
Vice Mayor Pam Bertani presented a proclamation declaring February 2026 as National Cancer Prevention Month to North Bay Health representatives Chris Matthews and Katie Lydon; a speaker credited North Bay staff with lifesaving care and described personal experience with cancer treatment.
During public comment, EJ Johnson updated the council on Downtown Theater activities, including an ICHA a cappella competition (7 groups, local group Mist placed second), the launch of a monthly Storybook Theater series offering free children’s performances for Solano County, and an upcoming production of Rent in March. Former Fire Chief Michael E. Smith and Stephanie Perry spoke on behalf of the Solano Civil Grand Jury to recruit applicants, described the jury’s oversight role, and noted qualifications and a substantial time commitment for prospective jurors; applications were made available in the lobby and online.
The council approved the consent calendar by a single-motion voice vote with no separate public speakers. The council also approved the mayor’s youth commission appointments and swore in Julian Cortez and Sahej Takar, both 13 and students at Green Valley Middle School, who each introduced themselves briefly.
Council members were reminded of two upcoming community events: the annual State of the City (with the Chamber of Commerce) and a community informational meeting on Measure P to be held in council chambers.
The meeting adjourned with the next regular council meeting scheduled for March 3, 2026.
