Taylor Beard, newly appointed general manager at Prairie Creek, told the Muncie Park and Recreation Board on Feb. 17 that staffing and infrastructure work are his immediate priorities.
Beard said he completed interviews for the administrative coordinator position and expects the selected candidate to begin March 1. He reported quotes for lumber to repair docks and said maintenance crews are sanding and staining reusable boards while recycling damaged materials. "I'm also having them count and organize tires to be recycled," Beard said, noting he is pursuing a grant to help fund those efforts.
Beard said security upgrades are planned for the campground bathroom (key card access and a camera) to deter unauthorized entry and damage, and he hopes to update launch-area cameras and add safety features such as grip tape to docks. On campground operations he said many campers have received extensions and he has been helping campers remove items; he estimated roughly half of campers remain and that he has filed about 30 extension requests so far.
