Resident urges board to study East Wilson Road project, citing traffic and environmental risks

Elizabeth Wilcox told the Board of Sanitary Commissioners on Feb. 18 that neighbors near East Wilson Road want the board to pause and study a proposed project before it proceeds.
"I've called East Wilson Road home for the last 21 years," Wilcox said, adding that the road is "basically a 1 lane road" that has not been repaved during her residency. She said eight homes sit near the property in question, including four with children under 10 who play in the street, and warned that construction or resurfacing could cut residents off during work and disrupt school and work travel.
Wilcox also flagged infrastructure and environmental concerns: she said a natural gas pipeline runs directly adjacent to the site and that the area contains wetlands and a high water table. She asked the board to place the matter on a future meeting agenda so staff and commissioners could discuss the traffic access point and other mitigations.
The board did not take action on the project at the Feb. 18 meeting; Wilcox’s remarks were made during the public-comment portion of the agenda and were entered for the record. The board’s next steps were not specified at the meeting.
