Morgan County OKs up to $10,000 in hotel/motel funds to drill Pleasant View well

The Morgan County Commission voted on Feb. 18 to authorize up to $10,000 from hotel/motel tax funds to drill a replacement well for Pleasant View Community Center.
County staff presented the request, saying the center's well had caved in and the group provided an estimate. "The estimate was for a 300 foot well because I guess that matches up pretty close to what it was, a $7,500 and then 60 foot casing can be $1,500. And that only equals $9,000, but the request is for $10,000," the administrator said during the presentation.
Commissioners discussed funding availability in the hotel/motel fund, noting carryover balances and other planned projects. Staff said larger commitments are planned (including a trail project that requires a local match of roughly $90,000 for a $180,000 grant) but that the hotel/motel fund could accommodate the Pleasant View request. Commissioners also said they would request invoices from the vendor and, when possible, pay the vendor directly rather than issuing a lump-sum check to the center.
A motion to authorize the expenditure of up to $10,000 for drilling at Pleasant View Community Center, to be paid from hotel/motel tax funds, was made and passed by voice vote.
No additional conditions or timelines were attached to the motion at the meeting; staff said they would handle invoice collection and payment processing and would report back as necessary.
