Soda Springs council approves routine minutes and payables; hears community updates

The Soda Springs City Council on Jan. 21 approved the Jan. 14 minutes and the city’s accounts-payable list for Jan. 1–19, 2026, both by unanimous vote.
Council members reviewed late invoices from a vendor identified as Forest Green and discussed whether the city accrues large bills; staff said the city does not routinely accrue for invoices not submitted on time. Council members also questioned an unusually large natural-gas bill for the public library and asked staff to investigate.
Members briefly discussed ASCAP music licensing fees that cover playing recorded music in city facilities. The council heard a series of department reports and community updates, including a Festival of Trees report that organizers said drew an estimated 400 attendees and raised about $17,000—up from $10,000 the previous year.
Council president and staff directed follow-ups: have accounting staff review the Forest Green invoices and provide a recommended approach to accruals, and return with detail on the library’s energy charges. Council also asked staff to bring comparative building-permit fee information to a future meeting for possible adjustments.
The meeting ended with routine business completed and the council moving to new business and department reports.
