Greenwood council approves salary changes, grants and community contracts; multiple ordinances pass

The Greenwood Common Council approved several ordinances, a local grant application and community contracts during the Feb. 18 meeting.
Ordinance 2602, amending the 2025 salary ordinance to reassign an operations lieutenant to training in the fire department and otherwise adjust staffing, passed after the council voted to suspend the rules and approve first and second readings. Fire leadership cited recent growth in staffing—"we have added 24 additional firefighters in the past 2 years," the chief stated—when explaining the request.
The council also approved Ordinance 2605 to raise the city engineer salary to parity with the controller and city attorney, a change staff said is intended to aid recruitment for that certified professional engineer role; the measure passed after suspension of rules and unanimous recorded votes.
On grants and contracts, the council authorized submission of a 2026 Local Drug Free Communities Fund grant application for $7,357 to Drug-Free Johnson County. The public-safety presentation said the funds would support software for digital evidence, drug test kits and narcotics equipment.
The council approved the annual Greenwood Social contract for $50,000 and noted the organization submitted a financial report showing an operating deficit. The meeting also recorded authorization for the Great Greenwood Community Band contract and annual $5,000 city contribution; band founding member Mark Myers thanked the council and invited the public to a March 14 fundraising gala at Primo Bank.
All of these items were approved by recorded roll calls where noted, typically by unanimous 9–0 tallies. The council also approved listed conflicts of interest as presented on the agenda without reading each individually and adjourned the meeting.
