County accepts donated America 250 sculpture for Galloping Goose Park

San Miguel County commissioners unanimously accepted a donated commemorative sculpture for Galloping Goose Park on Feb. 18 as part of the America 250 / Colorado 150 program. Janet Cask, parks and open-space director, presented the gift and park improvement plans; artist Kirk Drogsvold described his concept that links railroad track imagery and local history with computationally inspired forms.
Cask said the governor’s office is supporting the commission and the county will work with the artist on final siting, scale and content; staff will coordinate procurement and any future relocation needs. Commissioners expressed strong support for showcasing local art in Galloping Goose Park and asked for community involvement during design. "This is an exciting opportunity for the county," one commissioner said.
Next steps: staff to coordinate design review, procurement details with the governor’s office, and a future ribbon-cutting or dedication event.
