The Orange Unified School District Board voted to approve the 2023–24 estimated actuals and the 2024–25 proposed budget at the June 26 meeting, a motion that passed 6–0–1 to meet state timelines and enact the budget by June 30.
Public commenter Kathy Moffett praised district finance leadership and singled out Mister Rivera for his service: “Mister Rivera, you have served us so well,” she said, calling him the district’s chief business officer and thanking him for his work. District staff told the board the last meeting’s budget presentation and multiyear projections stand as published and requested authorization to enact the budget.
Following standard procedure, trustees moved and seconded the budget approval. The board recorded the motion as passing 6–0–1. District staff said approving the budget tonight keeps the district in compliance with county and state guidelines and allows staff to implement the plan immediately.
Separately, the board considered a contract for the assistant superintendent of business services (Sulema Holguin). Trustee Erickson questioned the contract term after the agenda language listed 2027; the clerk and staff clarified the correct contract period is 07/01/2024 to 06/30/2026 and the board approved the contract (motion passed 6–0–1).
