CYPRESS — The Cypress School District Board of Trustees on Nov. 14 approved a series of actions during its business agenda, including a special education settlement, several vendor contracts and subscriptions, and personnel and procurement items.
Key actions approved by voice vote included:
• Special education settlement: The board approved entering into a settlement agreement for special education case number 2024250006 at a total cost not to exceed $97,200 (Agenda Item 13.1). A motion was made, seconded and the board voted to approve the settlement; staff had briefed trustees in closed session and reported no additional reportable action at open session.
• Contracted assessments and programs: The board ratified a contract with AT10 Education LLC for an individual education program (IEP) assessment and staff training for a particular student (cost not to exceed $3,000; 10/22/2024–6/30/2025) and approved a Summit K–12 connected literacy/English language development online subscription for $2,055 (10/18/2024–6/30/2025).
• Bargaining proposal: After opening and closing a public hearing with no public speakers, the board adopted the Cypress School District bargaining proposal for the 2024–25 negotiations with the Association of Cypress Teachers (Agenda Item 13.4).
• Personnel and compensation: The board approved revised job descriptions tied to salary increases for several confidential/classified positions (fiscal services coordinator and executive assistant to the superintendent: 6% increases; administrative secretary confidential: 7%), effective Dec. 1, 2024.
• Professional programs and IT: Trustees ratified a memorandum of understanding with the Orange County Superintendent of Schools for the 2024–25 teacher induction program at no cost to the district, approved 12 Zoho Desk professional subscriptions ($2,980.80) to replace an unsupported work‑order system, and authorized computer equipment purchases from CDW‑G not to exceed $200,000 to enable upgrades to Windows 11 and modernize staff devices.
• Facilities inspector: Board approved an agreement with AW Industries for Inspector of Record services for the Arnold transitional kindergarten restroom addition project through Dec. 31, 2024, at a not‑to‑exceed cost of $19,000; staff explained that the Division of the State Architect requires inspections at key construction stages and that billing is for actual inspector time on site.
Trustees asked clarifying questions on several items — for example, whether the AT10 assessment is recurring (staff said it was an initial assessment for a specific student), why the inspector contract was not part of a previous consent item (staff cited availability and project sequencing), and how the Zoho subscription differs from prior systems (staff said it replaces an unsupported, on‑premises work‑order system with a cloud solution). All listed items were approved by voice vote during the meeting.
