Student board member Lauren Coe sworn in; district recognizes student winners and awareness months

At the start of the meeting Superintendent Leon administered the oath of office to Lauren Coe, who repeated the pledge and said she was eager to represent the student voice and work with the board. Leon told the board and public that Coe had been sworn in earlier in the superintendent’s office but that the board would perform the public swearing to allow family and community members to attend and take photos.

"I am so thankful to be in this position to have the opportunity to work alongside all of the amazing board members," Coe said after taking the oath, and the board welcomed her participation on the bond committee and in future presentations.

The board also recognized student accomplishments at the Orange County Academic Pentathlon. The presenter named student medalists including Adeline Oh (third place in social science), Dara Ong Pfingsten (overall honors and multiple placings), Summer Vilicorta (Perseverance Award) and Michael Jang (first place in mathematics). The board applauded the coach, Dewey Lee, and invited parents to come forward for photos.

Superintendent Leon highlighted National School Attendance Awareness Month and National Suicide Prevention Month, urged families to promote consistent attendance and to use resources such as SchoolStatus and the Care Solace referral service, and reminded listeners that immediate help is available by dialing 988. The superintendent and staff said counselors and school programs will run activities throughout the year to support students' mental health.

Those recognitions and the public swearing were followed by board photos and expressions of support from trustees and staff.
