Scarlett (Scarlet) Sanchez, a junior at Brea Olinda High School, asked the board to provide campus lockers. Sanchez said carrying heavy books daily contributed to medical issues: "As a result of having to carry 25% of my body weight throughout the day... my spine has become curved," she told trustees and offered to pass around two textbooks to demonstrate their weight.
Earlier in public comment, Susan Newcomb urged the board to review an off-campus incident involving two brothers who had been removed from the football team; she said the delay in action and the district's response raised concerns about due process and called on the governing board to examine administrators' decisions and protocols.
The board thanked the speakers and reminded commenters of the formal follow-up channels; no immediate board action was taken during public comment, though staff indicated district office follow-up was possible.
