Search committee sets April 1 candidate presentation, outlines interview logistics and confidentiality protections

Summary
AMN and the search committee agreed to target April 1 for candidate presentations, plan 5–6 first-round interviews requiring 10–12 hours of committee time, and to use redaction/numbering to protect candidate confidentiality during public meetings.
The Hospital Authority CEO search committee set a target of April 1 for a public candidate presentation meeting and agreed procedures for the next stages of the search, including interview format, scheduling and confidentiality protections.
AMN Healthcare Consulting told the committee it expects to present an initial slate of roughly 8–10 candidates, from which the committee would select 5–6 candidates for first-round interviews. "We're dedicating 90 minutes to 2 hours per candidate, and we're talking about interviewing 5 to 6 candidates," said Mick, the lead consultant, noting the first-round interviews will require a substantial time commitment — roughly 10–12 hours — spread over 2–3 days.
To protect candidates who do not want early public exposure, AMN proposed sharing candidate accomplishments while redacting personal identifiers and referring to applicants by letter or number during the public presentation. "We can refer to the candidates by number or letter," Mick said, adding that the approach preserves committee members' ability to evaluate candidates while limiting premature public identification.
The committee also discussed legal limits on closed sessions. Members noted Metro Legal's prior guidance and Tennessee open-meetings law guidance, and agreed to consult counsel about whether deliberations or portions of the review could be held in closed session. Committee members generally observed that interviews, when conducted merely to gather information rather than deliberate, are less likely to meet the narrow legal standard for executive sessions, and the committee agreed to confirm procedures with counsel.
On format, the committee expressed a preference for on-site, face-to-face interviews when feasible, but accepted that virtual interviews could be used for scheduling flexibility. Under the consultants' engagement agreement, the hospital will cover candidate travel and out-of-pocket costs beyond the consultant fee.
Committee staff was asked to collect members' availability for April and May and to begin blocking interview dates. AMN said it would provide scheduling blocks promptly so members could reserve the necessary time. The committee did not vote on specific dates beyond the April 1 target; AMN will return with finalized interview dates and redaction procedures.
Next steps: AMN will finalize and post the revised prospectus and job description, provide proposed interview date blocks, and coordinate receipt of member availability so first-round interviews can be scheduled.
