CSCU committee amends enforcement language in information security policy and votes to forward revised policy to full board

At its special meeting, the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) Special Media and Technology Committee discussed and approved a non‑substantive amendment to the draft information security policy before forwarding the revised document to the full board.
Chair Ted Yang introduced the item and confirmed the draft policy was attached to the posted agenda. The committee discussed making the enforcement paragraph in section V consistent with other institutional policies by adding the phrase "up to and including terminate." Ted Yang and other members said that language existed in the prior policy and that restoring it would align enforcement terms across policies. Regent Ari Santiago moved to modify the language in section 5 "as discussed" and Chair Yang seconded; the motion carried. The committee then moved to approve the resolution as modified for submission to the full board; that motion was seconded and also carried.
Chair Yang thanked staff for the drafting work. "It's been a long time coming here but honestly, I think this is a huge improvement for people," he said, urging colleagues and interested viewers to read the posted policy. The committee recorded no substantive dissent during the vote to forward the revised policy.
The committee’s action is a recommendation to the full Board; the full Board will consider final adoption at its next meeting.
