Rutherford County Schools approves budget amendment and several facility requests

At its Feb. 19 meeting the Rutherford County Schools board approved a midyear budget amendment for Fund 141 that increases both current-year revenue and expenditures by $880,000, reflecting state grant allocations and midyear cleanups of expenditure lines.
The board also approved a set of facility and program items:
- Smyrna Elementary: Principal Vanessa Ritter requested a partnership with Taylor Farms to install a 12-by-20-foot greenhouse and to develop garden spaces; the project was described as requested not to exceed $25,000 and was presented as at no cost to the board. Engineering had no objections and the board approved the request.
- Riverdale High: The board approved a request to name the Riverdale track in honor of Coach Ricky Field in recognition of long service to district athletics.
- La Verne High: The board approved a softball scoreboard purchase not to exceed $20,000 to be funded from softball funds; engineering had no objections.
Each of the listed items passed by voice vote or unanimous approval after staff presented the requests and engineering noted no objections.
What happens next: staff will proceed with procurement and scheduling steps consistent with the approvals and with applicable procurement rules; the budget amendment will be reflected in the districtfinancial statements.
