Miss Jones explained that federal allocations are often estimated during budget preparation and finalized later; when the district receives the final award notification, it must seek appropriation to place the additional funds into the operating budget. "As you know, when we start a new budget year, we base our federal programs on the current year that we come out of," Jones said, describing calendar differences between federal and local fiscal years.
A motion was made to request that the county appropriate the funds for FY25–26; the motion received a second and was approved by the board. Board members asked clarifying questions about timing and use of the funds; staff indicated the funds will be used for Title I programming in the current school year.
What’s next: staff will forward the board’s request to the Board of Supervisors for appropriation and will report back to the board as required by county process.
