State launches free Cannabis Training Academy to help prospective licensees

Penny Wilde, deputy executive director of the New Jersey Business Action Center, and Tahid Chapelle, the Cannabis Training Academy’s executive director, said the CTA soft-launched with five public-ready levels and is open for registration. The program includes more than 60 courses across more than 10 levels, videos, PowerPoint modules, quizzes and text/audio scripts; the first five levels total roughly eight hours of content.
Why it matters: the state-run program is designed to help applicants — especially those with limited entrepreneurial experience or who live in impact zones — prepare application materials, understand municipal and site-control issues, and learn standard operating procedures and labor considerations ahead of applying for licensure.
Details on access: presenters said the CTA is no-cost for New Jersey residents age 21 and older, will include Spanish-language modules after translation, and offers live Q&A and webinars to supplement online content. The portal address provided in the meeting was njcta.nj.gov and a QR code was made available to attendees.
Commission reaction: Chairwoman Wenu and several commissioners thanked the presenters and asked the CTA team to return periodically with updates. Commissioner Barker and Commissioner Delcid Coso expressed appreciation for the program's support for prospective entrepreneurs and impact-zone applicants.
Next steps: the CTA team said it will continue expanding content and instructor cohorts and provide webinars and live sessions as rules and regulations evolve.
