The New Jersey State Board of Education unanimously adopted three resolutions recognizing April observances: Month of the Military Child, School Library Month, and Autism Acceptance Month.
Board member Marybeth Berry read the resolution recognizing April as the Month of the Military Child; the motion to adopt carried unanimously and the board announced a proclamation-signing event at McGuire Air Force Base on April 4, 2025. Claudine Keenan read the School Library Month resolution, after which Karen Grant, president of the New Jersey Association of School Librarians, thanked the board and highlighted school libraries' role in promoting literacy and information literacy.
Jeanette Pena read the Autism Acceptance Month resolution. Angie Tanner, an occupational therapist at the Children's Center of Monmouth County, accepted the proclamation and shared a personal account of two students with autism who died in a house fire three years earlier, saying that the memory drives her work and the call for better resources for students with autism.
All three resolutions were adopted without opposition and board members posed with recipients after the meeting. Department staff identified officials who will attend related events and signings.
