State Board approves Department of Education organizational chart changes

The New Jersey State Board of Education voted unanimously to accept a proposed reorganization of the Department of Education’s internal structure.
Chief of staff (presenting the proposal) outlined the principal changes: moving the Office of Communications to the chief of staff to improve information flow; returning the Office of Recruitment, Preparation and Certification to the Division of Teaching and Learning Services; adding the Office of Learning Equity and Academic Recovery (LEAR) to reflect legislation signed last August; and realigning audit and investigation units among finance and legal divisions for closer functional fit.
Additional changes include creating distinct offices for preschool expansion and preschool finance to support universal preschool goals, merging school facilities units into a single Office of School Facilities, and moving Information Technology to Administrative Services. The presenter said the changes aim to streamline workflows and align statutory responsibilities.
President called for a motion to accept the organizational chart; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
The approved reorganization is administrative and internal to the department; no budget appropriation or statutory change was enacted by the board at this meeting.
