Camden superintendent outlines progress, rightsizing and a $91 million budget gap closed in turnaround update

Camden City School District Superintendent Katrina T. McCombs presented a comprehensive update to the State Board of Education on district performance, finances and programmatic strategies as she prepares to leave the district and join the Department of Education.
McCombs said the district’s April 2024 CUSAC (Comprehensive Unified School Accountability Classification) review showed strong performance and operations (92%), governance (87%) and personnel (87%), but that scores in fiscal management and instruction triggered a District Improvement Plan. ‘‘The scores in instruction and program and fiscal management fell below the 80 threshold and triggered the development of a district improvement plan,’’ she said.
She described a multi-year effort to reduce audit findings and strengthen internal controls, and reported that audit findings fell from a peak of 27 to three in fiscal years 2023 and 2024. McCombs said…
