WSDOT: US 2 closed for roughly 49 miles; several corridors may take months to repair

Julie Meredith of the Washington State Department of Transportation said crews have worked around the clock since the storm began and that more than 60 roads have been reopened, but multiple highways remain closed or severely damaged.
"Some of our main focuses have been on US 2, which is closed for about 49 miles between the towns of Skykomish and Leavenworth," Meredith said, noting large stretches are washed out and will require rebuilding. She said a bridge near Milepost 54 is covered in several feet of debris and active landslides are ongoing.
Meredith also described a 200-foot washout on US 12 near Naches; local detours exist but emergency repairs are underway. She said SR 410 between Enumclaw and Greenwater has been washed out in places and is being managed with piloted traffic where safe.
WSDOT's geotechnical crews are monitoring active slides, Meredith said, and the timeframe to fully reopen badly damaged corridors may be measured in weeks to months depending on weather and slope stability. She urged the public to obey road closure signs and not to drive through standing water or washed-out roadways for their own safety.
