The Gadsden City Council on Feb. 17 approved routine meeting minutes and ratified city payments and took several procedural actions during a short, procedural session.
The council approved the minutes of the Feb. 10 work session and council meeting after a motion, second and an oral vote; the chair announced the motion carried. The council then entertained a motion to ratify payment of accounts for the week of Feb. 6–12; a motion and second were made and the chair announced that motion carried.
Separately, the council granted unanimous consent to allow an out-of-town speaker to address the council about the passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson.
On legislative business the chair introduced Item 11 on first reading: an ordinance authorizing conveyance of property described as Lot 8 in Block 3 of Glendale Avenue in District 1. The clerk said Daryl K. Green has offered $2,750 for the property. The ordinance was presented for first reading and will be scheduled for final action next week.
What’s next: No final votes on the ordinance were taken Feb. 17; the council scheduled the ordinance for consideration at the next meeting, when a formal vote is expected.
