Transportation Commission moves to develop stakeholder advisory committee to inform policy and funding

The Washington State Transportation Commission voted to direct staff and two commissioners to develop a proposal for a Transportation Advisory Committee aimed at creating a structured channel for input from core partners (cities, counties, MPOs, ports, transit associations, labor, CRAB).
Chair Debbie Young proposed that the commission designate two commissioners to convene initial members and return with a proposal for how the advisory committee would be structured and governed. "I'm gonna propose we just take an aye or nay vote," Chair Young said, then asked for a motion to designate Commissioners Stuckey and Baldwin to work with staff and partners and bring back a proposal. A motion was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Commissioners debated membership scope, cautioning against an overly large body and urging clarity about the committee’s purpose and deliverables. Several commissioners recommended including labor representation and suggested the committee initially be focused on a clear set of topics (for example: preservation funding, regional coordination, and tolling equity). The proposal would be advisory only and not expand the commission’s membership.
Next steps: Commissioners Stuckey and Baldwin will work with staff and the named partners to convene an initial meeting, draft membership and scope, and return to the full commission with a formal proposal for approval.
