Superintendent reports student safety numbers; announces strategic‑plan input and shared‑services review

Superintendent Elizabeth Jewett delivered the board's biannual Student Safety Data Summary for the reporting period Jan. 1–June 30, 2025 and announced several near‑term meetings for staff and community input.
"We had 0 incidents of violence, 3 incidents of vandalism, 0 incidents involving weapons, and 9 incidents of substance abuse," Jewett told the board. She added: "we had 3 alleged HIV incidents and 3 confirmed HIV incidents, which, of were all reported and shared with the board." Jewett also said there were 55 incidents that led to in‑school or out‑of‑school suspension during the reporting period.
Jewett said the district's new educator orientation began that day, with a staff luncheon planned Thursday, and invited board members to attend. She announced a Regionalization Shared Services Feasibility Study Committee meeting scheduled for Aug. 26 at 6:00 p.m. and a community strategic‑plan input session for Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
Jewett framed the safety numbers as the statutorily required biannual summary and clarified that counts are student counts ("that number doesn't necessarily mean separate incidents; it just means students"). She closed by thanking building and grounds staff for preparations and noting athletics and activities are underway.
The board took no immediate action on the safety data beyond receiving the report; Jewett said more opportunities for community input on the strategic plan would follow.
