The Watchung Hills Regional High School Board received financial and operations updates at its Dec. 9 meeting.
Operations committee members reported a clean audit for the district and described fund balances as strong but below allowable reserve limits. "We have a clean audit," Speaker 2 said, noting there were no audit recommendations this year.
Facilities work is progressing: rooftop HVAC units above the administrative offices have been installed and the contractor is completing a punch list; design-lab panels have been installed and signage is pending; a new baseball and softball scores table is complete though some minor asphalt repairs remain. The board previously approved an $11,870 expense for the DeGancy Memorial Wall, and Speaker 2 said vendor lead time is approximately "six to eight weeks" after a purchase order is received.
On the 2627 budget, supervisors were expected to complete documentation by Dec. 5, and staff reported that documentation and budget updates are being finalized. Speaker 3 summarized a meeting with Mr. Finn of Brown and Brown regarding health insurance options for the district and the potential for a shared-services approach with sending districts. "The state health benefit plan is having a 31% increase," Speaker 3 relayed from the consultant's overview, and the board was told an estimate of the district's rate may be available the following week.
The board did not adopt budget resolutions during this segment; updates and timelines were presented for further planning.
Next steps: contractors will complete punch-list items and procurement once orders are issued; staff will continue to finalize 2627 budget documentation and report estimated insurance rates when available.
