Committee clarifies practitioner authority to notify patients when placental tissue is used in stem-cell treatments

Vickers said the earlier measure was ‘‘a casualty on the last night’’ of session and that SB 55 simply clarifies that the prescriber or practitioner may provide the patient notice about the origin of the placental tissue used in treatment.
Committee members asked whether the bill addresses donation consent processes at hospitals; the sponsor said he was not an expert on hospital donation logistics and could not provide detail in the hearing. No public commenters opposed the fix. Representative Fatima moved and the committee favorably recommended SB 55 to the full Senate/House (per committee practice) by unanimous vote.
