During public comment Cindy asked Amy about eligibility and rent levels for one-bedroom tax-credit units. Amy responded that, for a single-person one-bedroom tax-credit unit in the complex, the minimum income threshold is $58,000 and the maximum is approximately $65,000; she said the state sets those limits. Amy added that the current rent figure she had for a one-bedroom tax-credit unit was $16.49 and that rent and eligibility guidelines may change in April.
The exchange clarified that rent pricing is set by the apartment management while eligibility is determined by program rules; Amy said a household’s income determines whether it qualifies for tax-credit units while the apartment sets the rent. She noted that if an applicant’s income later rises, the rent does not automatically decrease.
Speakers at the meeting urged applicants to submit applications promptly because units are limited; management said two applicants were lined up for one-bedroom units at the time of the report.
