The Bloomington parks board approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Somo Development Company to formalize long‑term maintenance and access responsibilities for the Southern Meadows spur of the Bloomington Rail Trail.
Rebecca Swift, operations development division director, said Somo will continue to maintain the segment of trail on its property and grant the city permanent access and rights to inspect, maintain or repair the bridge as needed. Under the MOU the bridge and the trail north of the bridge will become property of the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation; Swift said she expects staff to bring a quick‑claim deed in the coming months to accept the parcel formally.
The MOU outlines collaborative development, future management and maintenance responsibilities; staff said they previously addressed bridge inspection and ownership questions and that the MOU clarifies long‑term roles. The board voted to approve the MOU by roll call.
