The Bloomington Board of Park Commissioners voted to approve a nonreverting budget amendment to allow purchase of a new Show Master mobile stage at a cost of $155,882.
Leslie Brinson, recreation division director, told the board the current Winger mobile stage was purchased in 2003 and is experiencing wear — hydraulic system, battery and bridle issues — and that staff visited Century Industries in Sellersburg, Indiana, to evaluate options. Brinson said staff learned the vendor is increasing prices for 2026 and estimated that postponing purchase would add at least $30,000 to the price. The Parks and Recreation nonreverting cash balance was described as approximately $1,500,000 and staff projected a year‑end surplus in the nonreverting account; making the purchase would create an estimated deficit of roughly $22,000 in the nonreverting fund for the next fiscal year.
Production of the new stage is expected to take about eight months, Brinson said, and staff will continue to use the existing stage until the replacement arrives, at which point the department will consider surplusing or selling the current unit. The board moved and approved the amendment by unanimous roll‑call vote.
The board did not amend the motion, and staff said they would proceed with the procurement in 2025 to secure current pricing.
