Bloomington parks board approves routine contracts, appointments and event partnership

The Bloomington Board of Park Commissioners on Thursday approved a package of routine contracts, reappointments and an event partnership aimed at maintaining park operations and supporting community programming.

In a single series of votes the board approved a blanket service agreement with Woods Electric for up to $20,000 to cover electrical repairs and on‑call service for parks facilities, and renewed a contract with Izzy's Rentals to service portable restrooms at trails, parks and events. Amy Landbeck, operations coordinator, said most sites are serviced weekly and frequency increases during busier seasons; staff will monitor problem units and report repairs to the vendor.

Board members also approved a contract with Nature's Way not to exceed $13,520 to convert the remaining four original planters on Courthouse Square to a native‑forward planting palette, a move Joanna Sparks, urban green space manager, said will improve symmetry and reduce maintenance. The board voted to reappoint Denise Gardner, Bill Jones, Marnie Potter and Angie Shelton to two‑year terms on the Environmental Resource Advisory Council; staff noted two open seats for additional applicants.

Parks staff also accepted an $800 partnership stipend from Visit Bloomington for FreezeFest, which will move to Switchyard Park and run Friday, Jan. 23 and Saturday, Jan. 24, park staff said. Leslie Brinson, recreation division director, said Visit Bloomington will coordinate ice‑carver logistics and sponsorships while parks will run the family‑focused Winterpalooza on Saturday and provide park space.

All measures were approved unanimously by roll call (Kathleen Mills, Ellen Rodke and Jim Whitlatch recorded as 'Aye').
