Manaway council certifies 2025 municipal election; winners named

Unidentified Speaker 9 moved to accept the results "as submitted by the Clerk Election Official," and an unidentified council member seconded the motion. After a voice vote the presiding officer said the motion passed and the council signed the certificate. The council noted the new municipal term begins Jan. 15, when the incoming members will assume office.
The council did not recount or reexamine individual tallies during the special session; the presiding officer said the meeting's limited purpose was certification. The certificate includes reported vote totals read aloud during the meeting: Annette Ash received 418 votes in the mayoral contest; council candidates Cheryl Bergen and Scott Ross were recited as receiving 258 and 345 votes, respectively. The council recorded that 141 ballots were marked such that voters did not select a council candidate and that roughly 120 ballots lacked some vote contests, based on staff's contest total explanation.
No challenges or formal contests were entered at the special meeting. The council's next regular meeting on Jan. 15 was identified as the date when newly certified winners will take office.
