Alderman Katie Chasson moved to amend the committee agenda to add Russell; the committee then voted to forward the closure and waiver request to the council for a vote. Committee minutes record the motion carried and the request was presented to council, where a voice vote recorded 'Aye.'
Russell told the committee the bike show is a fundraiser for the Down Syndrome Association and requested the temporary closure and waiver to allow participants and attendees to gather safely and raise funds. Alderman Chasson also informed the council of other upcoming community events.
The council approved moving the matter forward; any final approval of the street closure and ordinance waiver will be reflected in subsequent council minutes when specific permits and public-safety measures (traffic control, security, sanitation) are addressed.
