Committee approves amended menstrual equity measure requiring campus plans from public institutions

The committee adopted amendments to Senate Bill 22‑43 to change the approach to menstrual equity. Instead of requiring each public institution to convene a separate menstrual equity task force, the amendment directs the president of each public institution to develop a menstrual equity plan; presidents may direct existing campus hunger task forces, convene a new task force or otherwise establish an initiative to craft the plan.
Committee members and supporting organizations signaled support for the amended approach. The committee moved the amended bill by roll call; Senators Singer, Amato, Moriarty, Cruz Perez and Kryon recorded affirmative votes.
The amendment aims to give institutions flexibility to use existing structures while holding them accountable to create a plan addressing access to menstrual products and related equity issues.
