NJ Cannabis Regulatory Commission schedules January hearings on social equity excise fee

Commissioner Mapp, chair of the Public Engagement and Education Committee, announced during the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission’s special meeting that the committee will hold three public listening sessions in January to solicit input on the use of the social equity excise fee. “Your participation is essential,” Commissioner Mapp said, urging members of the public to register to speak or submit written comments.
The committee told the Commission it is statutorily required to hold at least three hearings each year to gather public input on the use of social equity excise funds. The sessions are scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.; and Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. The committee said registration links and instructions for submitting written comments will be posted prior to each session.
According to Commissioner Mapp, the committee will compile feedback from those sessions and prepare a report to be included in the CRC’s recommendations to the governor and the state legislature. Chairwoman Weynu said the board looks forward to seeing public participation at those hearings and reiterated that the committee’s written report will inform recommendations for allocation of the social equity excise fee.
The announcement follows the Commission’s public-notice procedures under the Senator Byron M. Baer Open Public Meetings Act and media posting on Nov. 13, 2025. The committee did not detail funding allocations or specific programmatic proposals during the meeting; those details are expected to be developed after the listening sessions and reflected in the committee’s written report.
