Local neighbors pitch watch groups, community garden and summer 'Bark for Life' fundraising event

Jordan Johnson of the Mapletree neighborhood asked whether Sunnyside residents would join plans for a neighborhood watch, a community garden and a small business showcase at Orchard Park. Johnson said he was organizing a business showcase to help local micro-businesses and invited neighbors to volunteer or to contact him or the meeting coordinator.
Attendees also discussed emergency-preparedness training (a multi-hour "Map Your Neighborhood"-style workshop) that a nearby organizer offered to run if at least 20 people sign up.
Separately, a community member representing an Arc for Life/Relay-for-Life offshoot announced "Bark for Life," a dog-centered fundraising event scheduled for August at Marine Park; pamphlets with event details and vendor information were left on the back table.
Organizers said more information and contact details would be circulated and that presenters would provide handouts and email follow-ups as requested.
