Montebello highlights: Bella Verde Golf Club driving range reopens and Grant Ray Park infield renovated

City parks staff told the Montebello Parks and Recreation Commission on Feb. 19 that recent facility upgrades aim to improve safety and revenue at local recreation sites.
Staff reported that the Bella Verde Golf Club clubhouse is now a full-service food-and-beverage operation seven days a week and that the driving range reopened with a Feb. 7 grand opening. The range includes new netting, turf repairs and an automated ball machine with a credit-card processor; hours were described as daily opening at sunrise with a last-bucket sale at 8:30 p.m., except Tuesdays when the range opens at 10 a.m. for maintenance.
On parks renovations, staff said Grant Ray Park Field 3—the facility designated for hardball—received a new turf infield, laser grading across fields to improve safety and drainage, and overseeding of outfields. Contractor Albarrows and Associates carried out the renovation work; staff said the improvements are timed to be ready for opening-day activities on March 14.
Staff framed the upgrades as both safety and maintenance improvements, noting laser grading creates a more even playing surface and overseeding helps faster turf recovery after heavy rain. The city will continue similar renovations at Reggie Park in the coming weeks, staff added.
The presentations were part of a broader sports-ad hoc committee recap that also covered youth leagues and scheduling, which staff said are coordinated in advance with community organizations to minimize conflicts during renovation windows.
