Moroni council formalizes youth council application and expands youth programming expectations

Moroni — The Moroni City Council voted Feb. 19 to approve a formal application and agreement for the Moroni Youth Council that staff said will set attendance requirements, establish officer roles and expand youth participation in municipal processes.
The proposed form requires youth to attend a minimum percentage of meetings and participate in at least two activities; parents will be asked to sign the application to acknowledge expectations. Staff said the change is intended to shift the youth council from a primarily service-oriented program toward one that teaches government procedures and civic engagement. Officials noted prior practices in neighboring cities and said they plan to continue offering opportunities such as attending legislative sessions.
Councilmembers discussed grant opportunities to offset travel and program costs but said no grant application was filed this year. The council voted to adopt the application and agreement as presented.
What happens next: Staff will distribute the application to prospective youth council members, collect parental signoffs and integrate the new attendance and activity requirements into the summer and fall schedules.
