State creates Family Separation Response Task Force to coordinate support for children and families

The Department of Children, Youth and Families will lead a new Family Separation Response Task Force, Thomas Nunn said at the governor’s press conference. According to Nunn, the task force will identify points of contact across state and local agencies, public universities, religious communities and industries with high activity to facilitate communication and assistance. He said DCYF will engage legislators and community partners to refine supports and that children’s well-being will remain central to the task force’s work.
The executive order and task-force creation were announced as part of a broader discussion of federal actions affecting immigrants; no legislative votes were taken at the press conference and implementation details such as reporting timelines and specific funding allocations were not specified.
