FSEC to move routine facility updates to written reports; agency faces proposed 15% general‑fund cut

Council staff told the Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council on Jan. 21 that they plan to streamline meeting time by moving routine facility operational updates that have no nonroutine items to written packet reports starting in February. Director Sonia Bumpus and staff said the change is intended to focus meeting time on applications under review and facilities with compliance issues; facilities with nonroutine items will still make verbal reports in meetings.
Bumpus and staff emphasized that the change will not diminish compliance oversight; staff will continue monthly communications with facilities and will bring nonroutine items to the council when they arise.
Budget update
Nabilah (FSEC staff) reported that the governor's proposed 2026 supplemental operating budget included a proposed 15% cut to the agency's general‑fund allocation—about $245,000—and that staff are developing strategic actions to offset the reduction, including shifting some general‑funded activities to overhead or project billings where appropriate. Staff plan to provide a fuller update to the council in February.
