Resident urges commission to publish repair list for Columbia River bridges

Sharon Nasik, a member of the Third Bridge Now/Economic Transportation Alliance, urged the Washington State Transportation Commission during the public-comment period to publish independent inspection results and a cost estimate for repairs to Columbia River bridge crossings. "They still haven't put it there," Nasik said, pressing the commission to "pull it out and say, this is what is wrong with the bridges, [and] cost to have them repaired."
Nasik recalled prior reviews of the Columbia River Crossing and said independent inspections and a clear accounting of repair needs and costs were requested repeatedly over many years but not provided. She told commissioners the public has been told bridges were "in pristine condition" while she said earlier reviews and requests indicated more scrutiny was needed.
The commission did not take immediate action on Nasik's request during the meeting; Chair Debbie Young thanked her for the comment and moved on to the next agenda item. The public comment exchange is part of the record that commissioners and staff may use when setting inspection priorities or outreach plans.
