The City of Green Bay committee approved removing two-hour parking restrictions on the 800 block of Hubbard Street after hearing from the resident who asked for the change.
Eric Gabrielson (875 Hubbard) told the committee he has lived on the block for 17 years and said the nearby school parking lot remains underused because enrollment declined, leaving neighborhood streets congested with long-term parkers. "When we first purchased the home, there was a huge traffic problem ... I assume that's why the city had implemented 2 hour parking in that area," Gabrielson said, describing that current conditions made the restriction unnecessary.
Staff and committee discussion noted that most citations in the area were issued to residents, not students, and the school district sets parking lot rates; the parking division reported no objection to removing the restriction. Alder Prophet opened the floor to the resident and the committee voted to accept the staff recommendation and remove the two-hour parking zone.
The removal will be implemented by the parking division; the committee did not specify a phase-in plan at the meeting.
