The City of Green Bay committee approved a request to install a high-visibility painted crosswalk at the intersection of Ashland Avenue and Hover Street, after a brief discussion about location and visibility.
Alder Jackson told the committee the crossing is flat, highly visible and would provide a marked pedestrian route between Walnut and Dousman. "So we will paint that this summer," Alder Jackson said, describing a continental (thick-striped) crosswalk on the north and south sides and a pedestrian sign with a down arrow to reinforce the crossing.
Committee members said the location is frequently used by pedestrians traveling to downtown and favored the crosswalk because it improves walkability and safety; one member noted recent redesign work on Mason Street was part of a broader effort to slow traffic downtown. The motion to approve the installation passed by voice vote.
The installation will be scheduled administratively for the summer and does not require a separate public bidding process, according to staff comments offered during the item.
The committee did not attach conditions to the approval and did not set a separate implementation date beyond "this summer."
