At its Feb. 19 meeting the Providence City Council moved through a full docket of routine items, votes and recognitions.
The council approved minutes, waived readings and approved consent agenda items (items 4–20 noted as received; item 17 referred to the Committee on Finance). Several roll‑call votes carried: item 21 passed for the second time (14 ayes, 1 nay), item 22 passed (13 ayes, 1 nay, 1 abstention) and items 32–34 passed for the first time (15 ayes).
The council adopted a resolution recognizing International Women’s Day and announcing a council‑sponsored celebration; the resolution text set March 8, 2026 as International Women’s Day while a councilmember clarified the featured event will be held the evening of March 20. Members invited the public to the celebration and thanked organizers.
The council confirmed appointments and nominations, including a nomination for Ryan Holt to chair the Zoning Board of Review; members praised local nonprofit leaders and staffers, notably Reba and Isabella, for long service and community impact.
Members also used the floor for personal expressions: condolences were offered for victims of a recent mass shooting in Pawtucket; council members announced Black History Month events and paid tribute to the late Reverend Jesse Jackson.
