Local Chinese association to hold Feb. 28 celebration at Middletown High School

A representative of the Mount Hope Chinese Association, which also uses the name Middletown Chinese Association, told the Common Council that the group plans a Chinese New Year celebration at Middletown High School on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"We're gonna celebrate the Chinese New Year in Middletown High School... February 28 from 11AM to 6PM," said Mila Wu, who described lion and dragon dances, drums, musical performances, children's crafts and food vendors. Wu thanked Middletown High School principal Donahue and the school's diversity club for their support.
Wu said the event is intended to bring different cultures together, give children a break from screens and allow residents to appreciate shared arts and food. The association previously held a similar event at Mohegan High School, Wu said, and moved this year to a larger site to accommodate growth.
The council offered congratulations to the Chinese community for recent downtown festivities and encouraged attendance at the Feb. 28 event.
