Superintendent Larry Hook told the Forest Hills Board of Education on Feb. 18 that he will resign effective July 30, 2026, after 36 years in education and four years leading the district.
"It is with a mixture of emotions that I wish to tender my resignation effective July 30, 2026," Hook said, noting district achievements including improvements funded by the 2023 6.9-mill levy and continued gains on state report-card measures.
The board moved to accept Hook's resignation and approve the resignation agreement. A motion to accept was made and seconded and passed by roll call with all members present voting yes (Mr. Nye; Dr. Simmons; Ms. Wazewski; Mr. Ward; Dr. Strickler).
Board leaders thanked Hook for his service and outlined next steps. The board said it will retain a search facilitator, open opportunities for public input and work to have an incoming superintendent in place during the summer transition period. "We want you to be involved in that process," a board spokesperson said, urging community participation in shaping the new superintendent profile.
Hook, in his remarks, highlighted the district's academic progress, facility investments and staff accomplishments. He said the district's state performance index has improved in recent years and credited staff and community partners for the work.
What happens next: The board will advertise and begin a facilitated search immediately and said it will report opportunities for the public to engage at upcoming meetings and through the search facilitator.
