Governor signs proclamations, certifies electors and highlights recent ballot results

The Governor signed a proclamation declaring a recently voted measure approved and completed certification paperwork at a short press event, saying, "I proclaim that this measure was approved by the voters." He also confirmed that certificates of ascertainment for presidential electors were prepared and "will be sent to the senate and the archives, national archives," formalizing the state's electors.

Why it matters: certificates of ascertainment are the official paperwork states submit to federal authorities and the National Archives to document which presidential electors are appointed; the Governor's office completed copies for distribution to the U.S. Senate and the National Archives during the event.

The Governor also commented on recent ballot outcomes and turnout. He said an item transcribed in the event as "21 17" was rejected by roughly 62 percent of voters and separately noted that the Climate Commitment Act was affirmed by about a 62-to-38 margin, calling the latter a "thundering" confirmation. "Most everybody got to vote and we counted the votes, which I appreciate that democracy is alive here," he said.

The signing was largely procedural: staff handed the Governor certificates and candidate documents for signature and arranged photographs and social-media images. An aide explained the certification process to reporters, including that seven copies of the certificate of ascertainment had been produced for the necessary filings.

Next steps: the office will send the certificate of ascertainment to the U.S. Senate and to the National Archives as part of the formal process. The Governor also said he would follow up with staff to confirm whether any additional statewide certificates needed signatures.
