Committee approves prior meeting minutes, schedules next meetings; Legislative Building repair estimates under insurance review

The joint State Capitol Committee and Capitol Campus Design Advisory Committee approved the minutes from the Nov. 13, 2025 joint meeting. The SCC and CDAC each moved, seconded and approved their respective minutes by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript.
Chair announced upcoming meetings and deadlines: an informational meeting on May 7, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. to review feasibility studies (notably for statue placements) and a supplemental joint decisional meeting on July 23, 2026 from 10:00–11:00 a.m. with a single decisional item.
DES chief operations and project staff also provided an update on repairs following a recent incident in the Legislative Building. Joe Akin (DES) said most surface damage to bronzes and finishes is minor and repairable after session. The reception-room rug is identified as the most significant repair item; restoring that specialized, very large rug would likely require shipping to a U.S. vendor in New York that can handle the work. The transcript records a ballpark restoration estimate in imprecise numeric form ('between 689,000, 164,000' in the transcript) and DES said the cost options include full restoration, resizing to avoid damaged areas, or reuse elsewhere. DES will submit documentation to insurance and expects a preliminary insurance response in about 90 days before any substantive funding requests or repair contracts are pursued.
DES also described other pending repairs (drape/tassel damage, minor marble and floor scorching, and replacement of a damaged bench), said staff are taking steps now (dehumidifiers, moving artifacts where appropriate), and noted security upgrades and other repairs will be discussed further once insurance outcomes are clearer. No votes on repair funding were taken at the meeting.
