Sherry Stanton, KBTC's director of development, and a KBTC colleague (Phil) described a multi-pronged media partnership with America250 Washington: free community screenings and discussions of the national Ken Burns documentary; short-form profile videos (5–7 minutes) about local sites and people; weekly on-air promotional spots that reference the state events calendar; and short public-service announcements exploring place names in the Northwest.
Stanton said the Ken Burns series generated heavy national viewing and that KBTC will leverage that interest for local programming and screenings. "By mid December, the series had already racked up more than 500000000 minutes of viewing," a KBTC presenter said, noting the program's national reach.
Phil said KBTC will prioritize events that are free and accessible, and will aggregate partner events—especially those in Western Washington—into short on-air segments and station promos. The station also plans profile pieces on Daughters of the American Revolution chapters, Fort Nisqually and local historical reproduction artists whose work supported the documentary.
KBTC asked partners to load events to the Historical Society calendar so the station can aggregate and promote them. The station described a mix of longer documentary-style pieces and short promotional material it expects to run repeatedly on air.
