Committee affirms Port/DCD collaboration resolution, asks for 120-day report

The Steering & Rules Committee considered a substitute resolution (file 251428) to formalize collaboration between the Port of Milwaukee, the Department of City Development (DCD) and the Innovation Office. Benjamin Tim, director of Port Milwaukee, told the committee the collaboration had been discussed during budget deliberations and that the departments have an active dialogue on projects including the Milwaukee Estuary Area of Concern and the Lakeshore Gateway Project. He said the resolution affirms that collaboration and noted a 120-day report period.
Sam Lycoming of DCD said the department remains committed to working with the Port on economic development, land use and water improvement projects even though a proposed DCD job-growth advocacy post did not survive the final budget. Alderman Stamper moved approval of the substitute resolution and it was adopted by unanimous consent; the committee requested follow-up reporting in the coming months.
