FPC approves multiple promotions, appointments and a rules waiver in Feb. 19 session

At the close of its Feb. 19 meeting the Fire and Police Commission approved a slate of routine personnel actions, including promotions, reappointments and a governance waiver.

The commission adopted the consent agenda by general consent after reading items that included meeting minutes and multiple job resolutions for MPD positions (police district administrative assistant, records specialist, systems analyst, crime analyst, building maintenance supervisor, and others).

The board approved a promotion to police lieutenant (resolution FPC 212411) and several detective promotions (resolution FPC 212413) by roll-call votes. Recorded roll-call responses showed unanimous 'aye' votes from commissioners present for those items, and the motions carried.

The commission also unanimously approved (by roll call) a motion to waive Rule 13, section 1—a two-thirds-threshold requirement that ordinarily bars reappointment of members who did not resign 'in good standing'—and then approved the reappointment of a former firefighter in open session by voice vote.

Additional actions included sergeant promotions (resolution FPC 212412), approval of 45 police officer appointments (FPC 212414) by voice vote, and the appointment of Maritza Ugarte as Community Relations Engagement and Recruitment Director (FPC 212396) by roll call. Commissioners congratulated newly promoted officers and the meeting concluded with an adjournment vote.
