County board approves several rezone cases, fills Board of Appeals vacancies and denies industrial rezone on spot-zoning concerns
Summary

The Sawyer County Board approved multiple zoning actions and appointments at its regular meeting.
The board approved Rezone26-001, a 5.72-acre parcel in the Town of Meadowbrook (applicants Caden Thompson and Carter Lang) seeking reclassification from Forestry-1 to Agricultural-1 to allow a small number of cattle and chickens. Zoning staff reported Town of Meadowbrook approved the request 2-0 and the county zoning committee recommended approval 5-0; supervisors approved the rezone by motion and voice vote.
A second rezone application for a neighboring property owned by Steven and Marisha Schlletti (37.47 acres) also sought conversion from Forestry-1 to Agricultural-1 and was similarly recommended for approval at both town and zoning committee levels; the county board approved that request by voice vote.
By contrast, Rezone26-005 (applicants Matthew Winters and Justine Abel), a request to rezone about 8.32 acres in the Town of Bass Lake from Residential Recreational 2 to Industrial 1 for use as a storage and distribution facility, was opposed at town (4-0) and zoning committee (5-0) hearings. Staff summarized public opposition citing "spot zoning," incompatibility with surrounding uses and potential air, water and topography impacts. The county board moved to deny Rezone26-005 and the motion carried by voice vote.
On appointments, the board moved several personnel changes on the Board of Appeals: Joe Barrard was moved from alternate to a full three-year term; Virginia (Ginny) Chabock was appointed as a full-time member and James Bassett as an alternate for three-year terms. Motions for those appointments were approved by voice vote.
What happens next: Approved rezonings will be processed by the zoning office per ordinance; the denied industrial rezoning remains subject to applicant appeal or future reapplication.
